Can It Be That Time Already?
With the wet weather we experienced in June and July, the few days (OK, couple of weeks) of hot weather in late August, and the cool and rainy
September, it feels like we never really had any summer to speak of. Now that fall foliage is well underway, it is time to start thinking about
Sparkle!
For many, Sparkle is an annual event in Freeport, and their rooms are booked a year in advance. For those just discovering Sparkle, you are in for an
old-fashioned, small-town, treat.
Sparkle is the first weekend in December (December 4, 5 and 6, this year), and includes L.L. Bean's Northern Lights celebration, their enormous
Christmas tree, ice carving demonstrations, a parade (complete with Santa on a lobster boat), sales in many of the stores, a Christmas decoration
contest, and more!

Maine Foliage Update
The fall foliage season is well under way in Maine and throughout New England.
Normally, in Maine, the colors change from north to south and from west to east. While this is predominantly the case this year, there are
significant areas in the middle of the state, in the Highlands area, that are a bit ahead of schedule. Similarly, New Hampshire's Kancamagus Highway
is having an early change, too.
We have recently seen two maps of the foliage areas that we'd like to share with you.
More on the foliage status.
Recipe: Gluten-free Quiche with Goat Cheese
Like many innkeepers, we find that a number of our guests need gluten-free meals. In searching for this type of thing, Ruth came across this quiche
from Martha Stewart, which we served today, to high praise from all the guests!
We served it as presented this morning, but will be trying it in the near future with fresh spinach and sun-dried tomatoes added, as well.
Get the quiche recipe.
