Festivals You Won't Want to Miss
Welcome to the holiday season! And along with the holidays come the festivals. This weekend (December 4-6) is the 16th Annual Sparkle Weekend in Freeport.
There will be a parade of lights at 6 p.m. Friday, as well as book signings, the huge L.L. Bean Christmas tree, crafts, theatre, activities, a talking Christmas tree, horse-drawn carriage rides, Victorian vignettes, a tuba concert, and more.
CORRECTION:The
Historic Freeport Bed & Breakfasts' Open House will be
Friday from 2-4 p.m. At the same time, the events of the L.L. Bean Northern Lights Celebration continue through New Years Eve.
Guests return to Sparkle year after year. It is truly an event you won't want to miss. The shopping isn't bad, either. :-)
In April (April 9-11, to be precise), the third annual
Flavors of Freeport festival will take place. There will be a Chefs' Signature Series, exhibiting favorites of the chefs, wine pairings, a Julia Child chocolate challenge (by the B&B's), and much more. The new Freeport Village Station center will host a block party, including their merchants.
Make plans to attend!

Business Update
We had a bit of good news just after sending the previous newsletter. The citizen recall effort to repeal the increase of the Maine sales tax successfully placed the question on the June ballot.
That means that, instead of the sales tax on meals and lodging increasing from 7% to 8.5% in January, the voters will decide in June whether it should increase as the legislature would like. Under the legislature's version the "normal" sales tax would remain 5%, but will be applied to many things not currently taxed.

In the News
We were flattered to be included in a local TV news story (aired Tuesday, Nov. 24) on Maine's first off-season promotion, Shop, Dine & Stay, with our Shop, Dine & Stay package the brief interview may be viewed here.
As promised, the carpeting of the third floor and back stairs is complete! Of course, since we changed the color of the carpet from blue to tan, it will also mean re-painting the stairwells and hallways, which are now gray, but will soon be a pale yellow/gold. We have also redecorated Room Five, at the front of the second floor. Photos of the newly redecorated room will be available soon.
