Maine Lighthouse Day - September 12!

Do you enjoy lighthouses? Or, perhaps you have never visited one, but want to see what all the fuss is about?

At Brewster House we love lighthouses (as most of our guests know!). We often provide the guests with maps and directions to lighthouses, and also have several packages that include lighthouse tours as well as other items.

We were really pleased to see that this year the State of Maine, the U.S. Coast Guard (who maintains the lights), and the American Lighthouse Foundation are combining to provide the first ever open house of Maine lighthouses as part of Lighthouse Day. Our blog series, Visit Maine Like A Mainer! has several new additions this month. We've added articles on the Maine Highlands, Maine's Mid-Coast region, and the Kennebec and Moose River Valleys region.

Pecan Praline French Toast Recipe

 

Followers of our blog will know that we've started posting recipes on the blog from time-to-time. One of our favorite French toast recipes is based on one we received from a family friend in California. She sent us Paula Deen's Baked French Toast Casserole with Maple Syrup.

As some of our friends well know, we lived for a number of years in the Southern USA (Mississippi, North Carolina and Virginia), and love a lot of the Southern dishes. One thing we find, though, is that they are sometimes a bit rich for us. Consequently we've taken some of our favorites and altered them a little to be just a bit lighter (they are still very substantial - just ask our guests!). That's what we did with this recipe.
