Sharing the Changes

In an earlier newsletter we promised some changes for the 2010 season, and they're near enough now that we can share them with you!

The changes come in a couple of varieties, house changes and specials. The specials have, for the most part, been mentioned before. We're standardizing most of the specials, so while they may be valid only in certain months, most will remain constant from year to year. That keeps us from scrambling to set up a special every time a holiday comes around, and gives you more time to prepare, as you can see well in advance what will be available.

The house changes have been more significant, and several are still in process, so if you're planning a visit here within the next few weeks, we'll apologize in advance if they aren't complete! Like most projects, these have moved forward, but not as quickly as we would like!

We're changing from number rooms to named rooms, with each room being named for a Maine lighthouse. There will also be photos of the lighthouses in the rooms. Don't worry, though. Those who have a favorite room will still be able to book it by number (or by name, whichever you like).

In previous newsletters we have already shown some of the painting that was done. Ruth is a busy painter (as well as a fantastic cook!), and painted the front entry hall, the front and back stairs, the third floor hallway, the entire suite of Room Six, and the bath of Room Three. She hopes to paint more (probably Room Seven, at least) before the season really gets underway.

Fireplaces are ordered and have arrived for three of our queen rooms - Room Two, Room Three and Room Five. We're having custom mantels built for them, so we hope to have them installed this month. We plan to install televisions in some of the rooms that will not have fireplaces, as we have received a lot of requests for them. Of course those of you who don't like the TV's can either choose a different room, or just leave them off.

Once you get here and see the changes, we hope you like them, and please do let us know!

From our earlier posts, most guests and readers know that we took a long vacation to attend the Professional Association of Innkeepers (PAII) annual conference in Texas and drive across the country to visit family and friends. We arrived home safely two days ago, and thought we would post an outline of our travels, for those who are curious (or care to travel vicariously).

Because of the passing of Ruth's mother a couple of weeks before we were scheduled to depart, she was in Oregon attending to family matters, so Scott held the fort at the B&B. We're grateful for the understanding of the guests who were here during that time - between a 12 hour power outage, and solo breakfast prep and service, it was not the "normal" Brewster House experience!

On March 4, Ruth flew from Oregon to Washington, D.C., and Scott drove from Freeport, Maine to Washington, D.C. (passing from Maine through New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virginia), arriving just in time to meet Ruth's plane. Yay! There we spent a couple of days visiting with dear friends in Northern Virginia. (the trip continues...)

New Maps Available

Our blog has been updated over recent months with maps of several things to do in the Freeport area, and throughout Maine. In addition to our hugely popular map of Maine lobster shacks, and Maine lighthouses, we've added maps of Maine whoopie pies, Maine's wonderful diners, and Maine antique stores. Check them out!
