Day 16 (Askrigg, England)
We had made arrangements to meet a couple from Leeds (about an hour and a half from Askrigg) for a meal during our stay. Kenny and Debra had stayed at Brewster House last October and we had hit it off well. They had offered a number of suggestions for our trip, and asked us to call them when we were in Yorkshire.
We arranged to meet them in the late afternoon in Harrogate, more or less midway between us. We decided to visit Fountains Abbey in the town of Studley Royal (I'm not making this up!) in the morning, then drive down to Harrogate to meet Kenny and Debra.
Fountains Abbey is an enormous old abbey, mostly in ruins now. The monks operated this facility and several farms and other properties across England. The setting is beautiful, and the property has incredible water gardens, installed in the 1700's.
We had a wonderful reunion with Kenny and Debra, toured a bit of Harrogate and went to Betty's Tea Room for tea and a bite to eat.
